The largest providers of water services in the county are the Elyria Water Department, Rural Lorain County Water, Lorain City Public Water, and the Lorain County Rural Wastewater District. The Port of Lorain is located on Lake Erie, one of the five Great Lakes.

The southern part of Lorain County is served by The Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative. LMRECA is a member-owned, member-controlled nonprofit electric distribution utility, located in North Central Ohio.
